Hey Friends. I did the BCP morning office this morning before class. I just did the Midday office after lunch. I'm enjoying the routine of prayer as it is beginning to flourish in my life again.

Peace,

I enjoyed meditating on Psalm 23 today. Then I opened the bible to Matthew 6:25-34 about not worrying. I needed the peace of these scriptures today.

I read the account of the Isrealites leaving Egypt and crossing the Red Sea today. I noticed a couple of details that seemed more "detailed" than I remember. First, Moses' encouragement to the people when they were already whining and thinking the Egyptians would kill them in the desert before they even got to the sea. (How quickly we forget...) He says, "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."(Gen.14:14) And then, as they were on the banks of the sea, v. 19 says, "Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Isreal's army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them." It reminded me of two promises I hold tightly to: Ps.139:5 - "You hem me in - behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me." and again in Col.1:17 - "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."

Hey friends,
I started the Divine hours again this week; because it was Monday it feels like a fresh start. I somehow lost my “summertime” book so have to do them online until Oct., which I like less. Also, I always loved the idea of praying at the same time with people that I know personally, but with the time difference probably not likely. Even so, we are going through a lot of transition right now and I need some meditative time woven into my day, and I don’t always know what words to use so the prayers are a gift. I did 3 of the offices yesterday and one this morning, off to a good start...

I did the morning office from the BCP this morning. I've been sticking with it pretty well over the past couple of weeks. The daily lectionary has us reading Job and Acts. I'm loving the narrative nature of those two books.

peace,

Dancing right along with the divine hours this week. Read Isaiah 56-66 and wondering about its meaning for the Misson of the church. Really feel Gods voice reminding or maybe asking me what story do I live in? Am I answering the summons of my faith or the demanding illusion of safety and happiness? or perhaps worse, the military consumerism that has such a grip on me (dare I say all of us)?. I can move across an ocean and not get away from these questions.

I did the BCP hours today...finishing up Job which is good because I'm tired of it. Went to see John Perkins speak with Kristin, Beth, Karen, Todd & Brad last night...it was really cool. It was fun to see some old friends and hear a great man speak.

I keep coming back to this Psalm, all week, it is so cool how God keeps bringing it to my forefront of thoughts:
Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

The steadfast spirit line is really resonating with me.
