I did the BCP office this morning. Last week was an OK week back to my routine of 4 times daily prayer. I'm still struggling to make it happen more than 2 or 3 times a day. For some reason, Compline is still a non-starter for me.

So good to be back in to a routine...Mornings w/ Jesus! Reading in Ezra and John.

Taking to heart Tim's challenge to contemplate before reacting. I've found myself in too many "crisis" conversations lately that I have reacted to, rather than take time to seek God and His way first. Amazing message yesterday, Tim. I laughed when you put Dr. Phil's quote up...I had just put a note on the fridge Saturday..."It's better to be nice than to be right." We struggle w/ that at our house. One question, what's a "mystic"?

I did the BCP office this morning. I can never read the passage where Absolam gets stuck in the tree by his very long (and apparently strong) hair and just hangs there until Joab kills him. Hiliarious...and sad.

Hey Beth, I know we talked about this last night, but I'll answer here so everyone can join the conversation.

As I understand it, Christian Mysticism is based around the idea that through the Holy Spirit it is possible to know God - to commune with God and experience God directly. This experience transcends the intellect and rationalism. It is not specifically bound by doctrine and is therefore a little wild and unbridled. It doesn't run counter the scriptures and the experience of God is often through the scriptures, but it need not be always through scripture. Same goes for the church. There is a communal experience of God, but they would also accentuate a personal, intimate, transformative relationship with Christ.

Christian Mysticism is rooted in the idea that we are called to be like God. As God's image bearing creatures we are meant to image/icon God to all creation. The Eastern Fathers would say we will become by grace what God is by nature. So there is the expectation of true transformation and change in a person that comes from a full union with Christ.

That's a rough synopsis...The wikipedia article on Christian Mysticism does a decent job - although there are some things they accentuate that I would not.

I did the BCP hours this morning. I was terrible at the office in general yesterday. Other than the morning office I didn't do my prayers. I hope to do better today and to spend my day prayerfully connected with God.

I did the BCP office this morning. I think 3 straight days of this rain is making me lethargic. But, I'm looking out my office window I see a patch of blue sky approaching. I hope it wil be sunny for awhile and bring me some energy.

The lectionary has had us in Acts for awhile, I forget what an incredible story Acts is.
